What's on the acrylic menu?

Four routes, depending on what you want the set to do:

• Full Set Gel — $55. The standard full set. New length, new shape, your color.
• Builder Gel — $55. A softer, more flexible build than traditional acrylic. Good if your natural nails are thin or you've had lifting problems, and gentler to remove.
• Color Ombré Full Set — $75. A seamless fade along the nail with no visible line. Takes longer than a single color because the blend is built in stages.
• Pink & White Full Set — $70. The classic sculpted French — pink bed, white free edge, built rather than painted. It grows out far more gracefully than a painted French tip, which is why people who wear it rarely switch back.

Full set or fill — which do you book?

Book a fill if your set is two to four weeks old and still intact — you only need the regrowth gap at the cuticle filled and the surface rebalanced. Book a full set if you have no acrylic on now, if the current set is over four weeks old or lifting, or if you want a different length or shape. A fill in gel is $45; a full set is $55.

Fill pricing follows the set you're wearing: an ombré fill is $60, a pink & white fill is $65, and a fill on an almond, coffin or stiletto set is $55 because the sidewalls take more filing to keep the shape true.

Most people get three or four fills out of a set before the accumulated product starts to look thick and it's worth soaking off and starting clean.

What shapes do you do?

• Square — flat tip, straight sides. The most practical for typing and hands-on work.
• Squoval — square with the corners softened. Square's durability without the snag.
• Round / oval — the most natural-looking and the least likely to catch on anything.
• Almond — tapered sides to a soft point. Elongates the hand; needs medium length to read properly.
• Coffin / ballerina — tapered sides, flat tip. The most-requested shape here by a wide margin.
• Stiletto — a sharp point. Dramatic, and genuinely impractical. We'll build it — we'll just tell you honestly what it's like to live with.

Almond, coffin and stiletto shaping is $10 on top of the set, because sculpting a taper takes noticeably longer than filing a square. Bring a photo if you have one — it removes more ambiguity than any description.

Do acrylics ruin your natural nails?

The nail underneath is unharmed by acrylic itself. Damage comes from two things: over-filing during prep — grinding into the nail plate with an e-file to rough it up — and violent removal. Neither is inherent to the service. Both are technique.

What we do instead: minimal surface buffing, no drilling into the natural nail, and soak-off removal where the bulk is filed down first so the acetone can do the work. Removal with another service is $20. When a set comes off, the nail under it is often a little dry and flexible for a week — that's normal, it isn't damage, and cuticle oil resolves it.

If you've had a bad experience elsewhere and your nails are thin now, builder gel over them acts as a splint while they grow out. That's one of the more useful things acrylic does and it gets overlooked.

Broken nail? Bitten nails?

A single broken nail is a repair, not a full set — $5 and up, and you can walk in for it. Please don't glue it yourself; household glue is difficult to remove cleanly and usually costs more to undo than the repair would have.

If you bite your nails, acrylics are one of the more effective ways to stop, because there's nothing soft left to bite and the habit tends to break within a few weeks. We'll start short — which looks better on a bitten nail bed than length does — and build up over two or three sets as the free edge recovers.
