The four manicures on the menu

• Basic Manicure — $25. Shaping, cuticle tidy, light buff, hand massage and regular polish. About twenty minutes.
• French Manicure — $10. The same, finished with a French tip.
• Deluxe Manicure — $40. A longer treatment with extended massage and hand care. This is the one to book if the point of the visit is to relax rather than just re-coat.
• Manicure with Shellac Gel Polish — $40. Full manicure prep with shellac color instead of regular polish, so it lasts two to three weeks instead of one.

Deluxe Manicure with Gel Polish is $50, and French Manicure Shellac is $50.

Who is a regular manicure right for?

Three kinds of client, mostly. People who change color often and don't want a soak-off appointment every time. People whose work or sport rules out anything with length or thickness. And people whose nails are recovering from a long stretch of enhancements and want a few weeks of nothing but care.

It's also the honest answer when someone asks what they should get and the truthful reply is that they don't need gel. If you're not hard on your hands and you like changing color weekly anyway, shellac is money spent on durability you won't use.

How long does regular polish last?

Regular air-dry polish typically holds five to seven days before the first chip. A quality base coat, thin color coats and a top coat refreshed every second day can stretch that to about ten. If you consistently need longer than a week, shellac gel at $40 is better value even though the appointment costs more.

Making it last

• Gloves for dishes and cleaning. Hot water and detergent cause more early chipping than any physical knock.
• Re-apply top coat every other day. Thirty seconds of maintenance roughly doubles the life of a manicure.
• Oil your cuticles daily. Hydrated nails flex instead of cracking, and the polish flexes with them.
• File in one direction. Sawing back and forth at the free edge causes the micro-splits that chips start from.

Allow about ten to fifteen minutes of drying before you handle keys or a phone. If you're tight on time, say so when you sit down and we'll use a quick-dry top coat.

Adding a manicure to another service

A manicure can be added to any other service for $15. It's the most common add-on we do — a full set or a dip set covers the nail, but it doesn't do anything for the cuticles or the skin around them, and fifteen minutes of hand care is what makes the difference between nails that look done and hands that look looked-after.
