What's on the art menu

• Chrome — $15. Chrome powder burnished over gel for a mirror finish. Reads as liquid metal in daylight and it's the most-photographed thing we do.
• Cat eye — $15. Magnetic gel drawn into a shifting band of light that moves as your hand moves.
• Nail designs — $15. Hand-painted work: florals, line art, marble, abstract, seasonal.
• French tips — $10. Classic, colored or micro-thin.
• Deep French — $15. A wider, more dramatic tip that has quietly replaced the classic French for most clients.
• Mermaid — $5. Iridescent shimmer that shifts color with the light.

Built-in fades are priced with the set rather than as art: a Color Ombré Full Set is $75 and an ombré fill is $60, because the blend is built into the acrylic in stages rather than painted on top.

Bring a photo

This is the single most useful thing you can do. Nail art vocabulary is inconsistent — one person's “milky nude” is another's “sheer white” — and a reference image collapses ten minutes of describing into five seconds of looking. Instagram and Pinterest screenshots are perfect.

We'll also tell you honestly if a design won't work at your current length or on your base service. Some fine line work needs a longer canvas than a short natural nail gives, and some chrome finishes only take over gel, not over dip. Better to adjust the plan up front than to be disappointed at the end.

Prom, weddings and events

Prom season across Boone and Kenton County — Boone County, Ryle, Conner, Cooper, Simon Kenton, Dixie Heights — lands in April, and those Saturdays book out. So does the run-up to Derby in the first week of May. For any event set:

• Book two to three weeks ahead, not the week of.
• Schedule the appointment three to five days before the event, not the morning of. Same-day is stressful and leaves no room to fix anything.
• Bring the dress color — a photo or, better, a fabric swatch. Screens lie about color; fabric doesn't.
• For bridal parties, call and we'll arrange the group across chairs rather than have you queue.

What art goes on what

Art can be added to acrylic, dipping powder or shellac gel. A few practical notes: chrome needs a gel top coat to burnish against, so it goes over gel or over acrylic finished in gel. Detailed hand-painted work needs a bit of length to sit on — on very short nails, an accent nail or two reads better than a full set of miniature designs. And cat eye needs a solid dark base to show the shift, so it doesn't work over a pale nude.
